The Education Faculty of the Baixada Fluminense plays
an active part in important activities within Environmental
Education. The Faculty is situated in the town of Duque
de Caxias, and since 1997 it has been fostering debates
arising from the nature of the surrounding communities,
as well as proposals for change within these same communities.
One of the Faculty's core aims is to lay the foundations
for the role of the public sector school as an essential
agent for the setting up of Environmental Education
projects, together with the need to create the means
by which the communities will participate in discussions
on the future of their towns. Thus, the extramural project
"Environmental Education in the Baixada Fluminense"
was conceived, which aims at developing both the skills
of public sector teachers in the Baixada Fluminense,
as well as provide specialist advice for environmental
projects. At present, the Faculty is developing a project
together with its Continuous Education Nucleus (NEC),
entitled "Environmental Education: a Production
by Various Actors". This project has created various
partnerships involving institutions, communities and
schools. In addition, an archive of videos on environmental
themes, as well as the "Integrated Program of Research
and Technical Cooperation in the Baixada Fluminense"
are located on the Campus.
